| Name: | Princess Azula |

| Birthdate: | 1989-02-20 |
| Location: | Fire Nation |
Name: Azula
Age: 14
Gender: female
Appearance: Azula is an intimidating-looking girl despite her age. With black hair usually kept up in a bun, decorated with a flame tiara, and two locks which frame her sharp face (which looks to be more the face of an older teen than one who is only fourteen), brown eyes, and red lipstick, she gives the appearance of looking older than she is, and being in control. The outfits she wears change depending on her situation, but most commonly she wears a pink shirt and loose pants under a rich red tunic. She wears red boots with gold trim, and red gloves which do not cover her fingers. When it is let down, her hair is actually surprisingly long, but she doesn't let it down in public often.
Personality: Azula is vicious person, make no mistake. No matter how she acts, at her core, she cares for herself, and gaining power for herself, first and foremost. If you are not useful, you will be thrown aside or trampled over. That aside, Azula does not always act as cruel as she is. She knows the power of a kind facade, and will use it to gain allies and throw enemies off-guard. More often, however, her ruthless perfectionist streak shines through: she is the princess of the Fire Nation, and wishes to associate with only the best. Mistakes and stupidity, on the part of others or herself, are not tolerated. If those under her command are proven incompetant, she will dump them and associate with more useful allies.
Azula will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. If it means death threats, fine. If it means killing someone, that's fine as well. Sucking up to her father? If she must. But she is a force to be reckoned with; getting on her bad side often ends in getting burned.
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths: Azula is an accomplished firebender--a prodigy. The fire she bends is so hot as to be blue, and she wields it perfectly with her well-practiced fighting techniques. Azula is also a rare master of lightningbending: a refined form of firebending that requires an emotionless carrier (this runs counter to most firebending, which is often fuelled with rage). She is also good at disguising herself; despite being a princess, she does not mind dressing herself in the clothing of the enemy if it will lead to victory. Very much a believer in the end justifying the means, she will manipulate, maim, kill, and threaten to accomplish her goals, and she's very good at it.
Azula is also a leader: her serious attitude and her tendency to accomplish goals swiftly and efficiently makes her a good person to follow (as long as she doesn't decide you're worthless/best used as cannon fodder). She can even gain the admiration of those who are supposed to be sworn enemies of herself and her people, proving that she does have a knack for leading soldiers.
Firebending skills are also enhanced by daylight (strongest at noon) and comets.
Weaknesses: As a firebender, Azula has certain weaknesses associated with this. Firebending skills are weakened at night, when there is no sun to power them. During a solar eclipse, their abilities are shut off entirely. The element that opposes fire is, naturally, water, and as such, finds it difficult to combat waterbenders or those who have other ways of controlling said element. The martial arts style associated with firebending is also a very offensive one; it relies on a quick, crushing attack and does not have many defensive moves.
Aside is also a perfectionist. While this is in some ways an advantage (it has led to her awe-inspiring firebending skills), it means she is very critical of the mistakes of others, and many people will find her hard to get along with because of that. She is quick to toss aside those whom she decides are no longer of value--potentially making enemies of them. And she does not put much stock in emotions such as love; as she often doesn't take this into account when forming her plans, this may catch her off-guard.
Azula is also nowhere near mentally stable. Having been thought of as a monster--even by her own mother--from a young age, she has integrated that into her personality. Knowing this, she feels free to be ruthless, but if she experiences betrayal from those she expected to never betray her, she has the potential to shatter spectacularly, becoming extremely paranoid and even delusional. On a less dramatic level, she is awkward in more normal social situations--she has no idea how to act like an average teenager, and is known to be disastrous at it.
History: Azula was born a princess, the second child of Ozai, the son of Fire Lord Azulon, and his wife Ursa. A privileged child from birth, it was quickly apparent that she was not a normal child. With a taste for tormenting her older brother, Zuko, and a tendency to enjoy hurting others in general, even her own mother asked, "what's wrong with that child?" But her father, Ozai, preferred his daughter to his son, for Azula showed a natural talent at firebending that he could show off.
Ozai was also a second child--his older brother, Iroh, was next in line to be Fire Lord once their father died. However, Ozai wanted to claim the throne for himself, and schemed to cut his brother out of his birthright. While Iroh was away at war with the Earth Kingdom, Ozai stayed close to his father's side, trying to win his favor. When Iroh's only son died in battle, and Iroh returned home out of grief, Ozai attempted to use this failure in battle to take the inheritence from him.
Azulon was infuriated by his younger son's insensitivity to Iroh's grief, however, and sentenced him to kill his oldest child, Zuko, so he could feel the pain Iroh felt. However, Ursa interfered to save her son. She killed Azulon and was banished as a result, but the plan succeeded: Ozai was crowned instead of his brother. Azula enjoyed witnessing this, sneaking in to watch her father and grandfather negotiate and also gleefully accepting that she now had a shot at the throne. Of course, Zuko was in the way.
But, years later, he was banished, sent to capture the Avatar to restore his honor. As the Avatar had not been seen for a hundred years, this was considered more or less permanant exile, and Azula was pleased to know she was now next in line. However, this was when the Avatar, Aang, was released from his hundred-year sleep in an iceberg, and Zuko chased him ruthlessly. In the end, however, he and Iroh, who had been accompanying him, were considered failures. So Fire Lord Ozai sent Azula to capture her brother and uncle and chase down the Avatar to prevent him from messing up the plans for world domination.
At first she took with her an entire Fire Nation fleet; when they proved useless, she switched to a small, elite group. She, Mai, and Ty-Lee, the two of whom she knew from her school days, travelled the Earth Kingdom, tracking down her brother and the Avatar and trying to kill or capture them. They infiltrated the Earth Kingdom's greatest city, Ba Sing Se, by disguising themselves as Kiyoshi Warriors, whom they had defeated and stolen the outfits of earlier. Welcomed as honored guests, they subverted the Earth King's rule, bringing the elite Earth Kingdom earthbenders, the Dai Le, under her power. After this, the takeover of the Earth Kingdom was a simple task. She also came very close to killing the Avatar with the help of Zuko, who was convinced that by siding with her he could restore his honor. She even let him take credit for killing the Avatar--because she knew he was not dead.
Knowing that the Avatar planned to attack the Fire Nation on the day of the solar eclipse--The Day of Black Sun. However, the eclipse was only to last eight minutes, and the Fire Nation was prepared. The invasion failed, most of the invading force was captured and sent away to various prisons, and the Avatar was farther from his goal. Worse, Sozin's Comet, a day which would give firebenders incredible power, was coming up fast, and they needed to act before that.
Azula was sitting pretty--but then she was sent to Paixao.
